Every instrument we use is cleaned and sterilized before it reaches the next patient. At Frank Batastini Orthodontics we rely on high-heat sterilization to make sure the tools used in your mouth are free of harmful germs at every visit.
What is high-heat sterilization?
High-heat sterilization uses carefully controlled high temperatures, held for a set amount of time, to destroy all forms of microbial life on dental and orthodontic instruments, including bacteria, viruses, fungi and spores. It goes beyond simply cleaning or disinfecting: when a cycle is complete, the instruments are sterile.
Why sterilization matters
Orthodontic instruments touch teeth, gums and saliva. Without proper sterilization, germs could pass from one patient to the next. Sterilizing every instrument protects our patients, their families and our team, and it is a standard we take seriously.
How our instruments are processed
- Cleaning: used instruments are first cleaned to remove debris, so the heat can reach every surface.
- Packaging: instruments are sealed in sterilization pouches or cassettes that keep them sterile until they are used.
- High-heat cycle: the packaged instruments are heated to sterilizing temperatures for the full cycle time.
- Storage: sterile instruments stay sealed until they are opened for your appointment.
How we know it works
Sterilization indicators on the packaging change color when the right conditions are reached, and routine monitoring confirms that our sterilizers are working as they should. These checks are part of our everyday routine, not an occasional extra.
Our commitment to your safety
From the waiting room to the treatment chair, we want every visit to feel safe and comfortable. If you have any questions about how we clean and sterilize our instruments, just ask a member of our team.
